A life of eating and drinking

Eating and drinking are normal and indispensable daily necessities of human beings. But human beings are different from the animals. They have a longing for spiritual satisfaction on top of eating and drinking. Once upon a time there was a renowned king named Solomon. His wisdom was exceptional and phenomenal and his wealth was incomparable. In spite of all this, he was no different from others-empty within. No wonder when his riches and authority had reached their climax, he said, “vanity of vanities! All is vanity” (Ecclesiastes l:2).

In other words, a wise individual is in no way content with his treasures. Since he was wise and wealthy, he tried various means to seek satisfaction. “All that my eyes desires I did not refuse them,” Solomon said, “l did not withhold from my heart any pleasure, for my heart was pleased because of all my labor and this was my reward for all my labor.” Yet, he remarked, “Thus I considered all my activities which my hands had done and the labor which I had exerted, and behold all was vanity and striving after wind and there was no profit under the sun” (Ecclesiastes 2:10-12). Solomon felt empty. Time waits for no one and he did not realize until in his later years that he had actually strayed from the Creator. He had forgotten God. What he got in return was emptiness. Thus he appealed to the people in the days to come, saying: “Remember also your Creator in the days of your youth, before the evil days come and the years draw near when you will say, 'I have no delight in them'” (Ecclesiastes 12:l).

These few words were the best that this wise king ever utter to the people of the world. Dear friend, you life will never be satiated unless you know the Lord Jesus Christ. You might satisfy your body by feeding and clothing yourself; you might satisfy your eyes by touring here and there; you might even satisfy your vanity by keeping yourself exceedingly busy everyday with a packed schedule. Yet, you will still be empty within. Solomon said it well: “All is vanity.”

The Bible tells us that “Not a famine for bread or a thirst for water, but rather for hearing the words of the Lord”                                                                                                                                                         (Amos 8:11)

Human beings have a different sort of hunger and thirst that is in fact spiritual needs. Jesus said, “I am the bread of life; he who comes to me shall not hunger, and he who believes in me shall never thirst”

 (John 6:35)

Dear friend, the real need in your life is Jesus Christ.  He loves you and has died on the cross for your sins.  He was resurrected and thus overcame the power of sin and death.  He is the true God resurrected. Are you willing to go to Jesus? Are you willing to believe in Him?  Dear friend, believe in Him right now. Ask in the name of the Lord Jesus with a sincere heart and accept His great love.
