A LIFE OF TEARS, TRAVAIL AND THRIST

Man comes with tears at birth. He leaves with tears at his death. Tears accompany him from birth to death. But what is more, if he is not saved by God, he will forever wail away even after his death, doomed in eternity!

Man finds himself constantly in travail ever since he begins to comprehend things. Travail becomes his lot when things go against his wish, when his task is yet to be completed, when he toils in life, when he languishes in illness, when catastrophes caused by war strike him, when natural disasters befall him, when he has to leave his family because of death or separation, and when......In summary, man's life is in constant travail. If he does not have Jesus Christ as his Savior, his fate is to travail forever under God's judgement in hell.

In the olden days, Moses, the great leader of the Israelites, wrote these words at the ripe age of 120: “As for the days of our life,...........their pride is but labor and sorrow; for soon it is gone and we fly away.” Labor and sorrow! Isn't this a true image of our life?

At his deathbed, man has to endure a fatal thirst when his body shrivels up. In due course, he will become just a pile of dry bones. If he ignores the salvation of God, He will be doomed in eternal death.

Why does a man have to suffer such a life of tears, travail and thirst? The answer is found in God's words: it is because of man's sin. The consequence of sin is the loss of peace, joy and love. Man's sin also separates man from God, the Creator of all things, the source of life.

God is the Creator of man, and He loves man who toils in a life of tears, travail and thirst. He sent His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to this sorrowful world to save man. When Jesus Christ saw how man, in rebellion against God, chose to walk the path of death, He could not hold back His tears; He cried because of the sin of man.

Tears originate from mankind on earth. The Lord Jesus Christ is from heaven, and He is almighty, glorious, honorable and great. He need not shed tears. However, He cannot help but cry when He sees how the world languishes in sin and all have to suffer eternal death. Everyday, hundreds of thousands of people die without being saved and become eternally condemned; Jesus Christ cries for them. Many continue to indulge themselves in worldly pleasures and are oblivious to the eternal fate of their souls; Jesus Christ cries for them. He also cries for you, for without His salvation, you will perish in eternal death. He cries and says to you, “God loves you!”

The Lord Jesus Christ not only sheds tears for you, He also travails for you. When He was on earth, He was despised and forsaken and acquainted with grief and sorrow.......and we did not esteem Him. Surely He Himself bore our griefs and carried our sorrows. He was pierced through for our transgressions; He was crushed by our iniquities. The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, and by His scourging we are healed. All of us like sheep have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way. But the Lord has caused the iniquity of us all to fall on Him. What a loving Savior! If you are in travail, turn quickly to Him. He understands your needs, for He has suffered for you.

The Lord Jesus not only cries for you and travails for you, He also died on the cross for your sin. When He was nailed on the cross, He was poured out like water, and all His bones were out of joint; His heart melted like wax within Him. His strength was dried up like a potsherd, and His tongue cleaved to His jaws. Thus He died on the cross for you, shedding His blood and dried up. He died as the just for the unjust, in order that you and I may be reconciled with God and be freed from the bondage of eternal death.

The Lord Jesus is the Lord of Life. Travail cannot overcome Him. Death cannot restrain Him. He was buried after His death, but resurrected from death on the third day. During a period of forty days, He appeared to His disciples and commanded them to spread the good news to all nations, that whoever believed in Him would not perish but have everlasting life. Then the Lord Jesus was received up into heaven. He promised that one day He shall come again.

F God loves you! The Lord has prepared a new life for you, God will deliver you from your life of tears, travail and thirst and lead you to heaven. It is hoped that you will not neglect so great a salvation!
