The Vanity of Life

“ Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble.

He cometh forth like a flower, and is cut down: he fleeth also

as a shadow, and continueth not.”

(Job14:1-2)

“Behold, thou hast made my days as an handbreadth; and mine

age is as nothing before thee: verily every man at his best state

is altogether vanity. Selah. Surely every man walketh in a vain

shew: surely they are disquieted in vain: he heapeth up riches,

and knoweth not who shall gather them.”

                                                                          (Psalms39:5-6)

1. If not God's life, you will live happily?

2. Why the renowned and wealth of people to commit suicide?

3. Apart from the Lord Jesus Christ, do you have any plans to enrich your life?

  4. Why the renowned and wealth of people not find Christ?

5. Whether you have seen the real Christians suicide?

Man who is born of woman, Is of few days and full of trouble. He comes forth like a flower

and fades away; He flees like a shadow and does not continue.”                                                  (Job 14:1-2 )

“All flesh is as grass, And all the glory of man as the flower of the grass. The grass withers,

And its flower falls away, but the word of the LORD endures forever.”                               (1 Peter 1:24-25 )

This truth can be demonstrated by looking at the lives of a few famous people.

For example, the arrogant King of Babylon, Nebuchadnezzar, was perhaps the most well-know king among his contemporaries, yet he became an outcast of his society. He was driven away from the people, and lived with the wild animals, grazing from the field like cattle. Alexander the Great, who conquered the known world of his day, died at the age of thirty. The only remnants testifying to the cruelty of Julius Caesar, the powerful Roman Emperor, are the crumbled coliseums in Rome. Napoleon the Great, whose armies swept and conquered almost all of Europe, was exiled to an island where he died. The ends of most contemporary dictators were more pitiful. Germany Hitler committed suicide. Italy's Mussolini was executed publicly, hanging body in public. Japanese warlords Hideki Tojo, he put his suicide to escape punishment, finally, he would inevitably be hanged. Soviet Union’s Stalin was condemned after this death. Ceausescu and his wife were executed by firing squad. Suharto's reign ended in disgrace. Philippines President Mark Andean exile in the United States, died of resentment. Iraq 24 years of dictatorial rule of Hussein was arrested, tried and sentenced to be hanged, In the world of computer networks can be seen in how he died on the gallows. The authors Hemmingway, Kawabata, and Mishima, the magnate Kodak, and numerous other celebrities, all committed suicide. The Kennedy brothers were murdered when they were young.

Ironically, the movie star who played "Tarzan" for twenty years was originally a champion swimmer, winning five gold medals in the Olympics in the 1920's. He ended up a pickpocket in New York, and was arrested for his crime. When he lived in an old-age home, he would often yell as he did on the set of the movie.

The most lavish wedding of the twentieth century, between Prince Charles and Diana, was the envy of many, It ended in divorce. And Diana died in a car crash. Indeed, three marriages in the British royal family ended in divorce. From the short history of these people's lives, one has to admit that life is as fleeting as flowers and grass. The glory and achievements of men do not and cannot last long.

We see that this kind of tragic life story keeps repeating itself, with only a change of protagonists.

Why are there so many tragedies in this world?

The Bible tells us that they come from man deserting God, the Heavenly Father, and deciding to follow Satan instead. The Bible also tells us that God loves mankind and thus prepared a way of salvation for everyone. The way to deliverance is simple: believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, and what He accomplished. Jesus Christ died on the cross for man's sins, was buried, and on the third day was resurrected. He ascended back to Heaven and promised that He would come again to take His people to dwell with Him forever.

There is a way to make the life ahead of us an abundant one.

Believe in the Lord Jesus, and the rest of your days will not be aimless and in vain.
